Before I get started do not assume you'll have the same experience I had. I do not recommend or encourage splitting your tongue yourself and let me remind you that I am not a doctor.

Tongue splitting (forking the tongue)

The main methods used today is having a scalpel cut the tip of your tongue to the base so it gives the appearance of a snake like tongue. After the scalpel you may have the wounds stitched closed, you can opt out of the stitches and have the edges burned so the bleeding stops. Its not recommended unless you want to pull your tongue apart multiple times a day so it wont heal back together. With that said if you want to reverse your tongue split you can.

When I decided I wanted my tongue split I tried the "tie off method" "fishing line method" "diy" there's a ton of names for it. So with the tie off this method cuts while healing at the same time so there shouldn't be much blood but it is uncomfortable. Its known to be very dangerous and painful, it has a increased risk of infection and just fucking things up in general.

I had to have a healed tongue piercing. I put fishing line through the piercing site and tied it to the tip of my tongue as tight as I could handle it. The tongue is a mirror image I had to stay on the lingual frenulum. Most of the artery's and veins you cant see. If you don't know much about anatomy of the tongue please do not take this risk. This is nothing like piercing yourself, you cant just blindly jump in and hope for the best. In my eyes I didn't trust anyone else doing something like this on me because in most states its illegal so anyone can say "I'm a extreme body modification artist" when they haven't been guided and just fool around. If anyone was going to fuck up there would only be one person to blame and it would be myself. There are many amazing modification artists/doctors that have earned their name you just need to know the right places to find them.

With this method it can take a few weeks or months depending on the person. My journey lasted awhile to make sure I was doing things correctly, I kept an eye on any loss of sensations or taste. Messing up something this serious can be life threatening. Every day I would remove the old tie and make a new one just as tight as I could handle. The tighter it gets the faster it splits. I made the mistake of buying clear fishing line so by the time the tie was hiding inside my tongue I couldn't see it.  Let me tell you what though the worst pain during this was having to pull the fishing line away from my tongue so i could create a gap and cut it then I had to rip the scabs open so they wouldn't grow back together. The scabs were a thin film that were white so it was easy to scrape or peel off but it wasn't comfortable.  So with this tie in the beginning I would use double knots I kept the knot on the tip of my tongue so it was easy to get to but once the cut went inside my tongue I had to start triple knotting it and rest the knot on the top ( I could feel it on the roof of my mouth) and left some extra string so it would be easier to grab with tweezers and clip the tie with tiny stitch scissors. Its not comfortable and the amount of drool that I had was nuts. The more I talked the more drool id produce. I also got this huge lisp the entire time since the tip of my tongue was pressed back. I used the stitch scissors and cut away at the few mm left holding the split together until it finally just popped apart. There was some blood but I grabbed two q-tips and pressed each one into the wound site so the bleeding would start slowing down. It was a bad idea but the thing is even if it become controlled there's a chance the q-tip could have reopened that small layer and start bleeding again. I got lucky but I also put petroleum jelly there just in case any blood did start happening,  it can help clog everything up in a way. Seeing the inside of my tongue was fascinating it doesnt look the same anymore since the split is healed but it was by far the craziest thing ever.
with any split you will have something called regrowth its exactly what it sounds like your tongue will slowly grow back together having stitches help delay that process but you'll still experience it at some point but with the tie off method you will have it pretty quickly. The removal of the lingual frenulum (web) under the tongue can be accomplished with either frenectomy/frenuloplast by a doctor but its not uncommon to hear the web being cut in half during the splitting procedure. it will most likely grow back together within a few days or weeks unless you get lucky. do not do it yourself if you want to know why then watch a video of frenectomy even if wont do it then id watch the video anyway its so interesting.
If I could describe the pain during this entire journey its like having your tongue pierced while also having your teeth pulled out. I kept drinking ice water, sipping on smoothies, eating easy food. eating food that deals with a lot of chewing is almost impossible and sipping on straws just hurt. Tylenol was my best friend. I would feel an aching pain under my jaw often. some days felt okay then other days it hurt like hell. The only way you can go through this is if you know for a fact you really want this. This is something you earn. Sometimes it would feel like I had a hair in my mouth but it was just the fishing line. Once it split I still had that weird sensation but it slowly went away. Basically I pushed my limits on how painful things can get and if i can take it or not. I believe that this changed my views for myself cause If i could handle this I know I can handle whatever else. that's what made it such a exciting journey for me. Its crazy what your body can do and how you can manipulate it into new things. everyone thought I was crazy I mean you are willingly torturing yourself with the "Most painful method known for tongue splitting" but honestly I have mad respect to anyone that can handle the scalpel method. I got used to the pain after a few weeks but I cant imagine just doing that all at once.

Its been about a year now so I can tell you some of the pros and cons.

cons:

  • I get tongue tied often.

  • my web is longer than normal so it can make it difficult to have full mobility on each tongue some are blessed with learning tricks quickly but I'm still trying to figure it out

  • This isn't really a con but one side will be stronger, kinda like everything in your body. If you are modified you know what I mean.

  • When it officially split I had some aching pain with my tongue cause I could do so much more with it. stretching it out further than it was used to hurt and working out each side just wasn't comfortable at first, no one really warns you about it but it really didn't last that long.

  • I still had the weird hair in my mouth feeling for a few weeks but luckily went away.

  • I clinch my teeth when I sleep so now that I am able to spread my tongue out wider when im relaxed I end up biting my tongue in my sleep. Its often, my dentist noticed it too. I have a few friends that dont have an issue with this though.

  • Since I didnt get it cut by someone the length of the split isnt much, its only to where my tongue was pierced but honestly I should have saved the trouble and had a great artist/doctor do it for me and that way the split could have been deeper.

  • I had people constantly hitting on me. They just always wanted to talk about what it might feel like. its just super disgusting. I had someone bring it up to her coworker and then that one spread it around which made them talk about how the sex must be amazing. Now if anyone brings it up even if its a S/O ill just get super uncomfortable with it.

pros:

  •  Im not creating any damage to my gums anymore

  • Some have noticed the split but its rare so its one less thing to hide.

  • Meeting others with a split tongue is like instant family

  • Freaking people out

  • Its funny to figure out what things you can pick up with it like chips

  • Once you figure out how to work the split and the tricks your sex life gets pretty interesting. It can make you feel more confident.
